The McDonalds scenes were all shot in City of Industry, CA, just outside Los Angeles. The set was a real-life McDonald's built specifically for crew member training and filming television commercials. Everything inside worked, but it never served a real customer. When it wasn't being used, it was locked up behind a chain link fence. It has since been torn down, then in 2006 was rebuilt but has never been open to the public. When Mac's family is being revived with Coca-Cola, the cans (with straws) are given to them at an angle that would cause them to leak if they were full. It's clear from the way the humans hold them that the cans are already empty before the aliens drink. See more »

The original Japanese VHS release of this film features an earlier cut of the film with an alternative ending where Eric is shot through the back by a cop. There are also some other minor color tinting and editing difference between the Japanese and U.S cuts. See more »
Mental programming brought to you by McDonalds. The brilliant marketing geniuses at McDonalds manufactured this movie in 1988. It's so obvious and contrived that it's a bad movie classic. Product placement, Bad dialogue and a Musical song and dance number (in a McDonalds nonetheless) makes this movie a cult classic. I suggest renting this movie and eating a big mac and fries at the same time. 6/10
